GENERAL DESCRIPTION

SHORTWAVE BROADCAST, HORIZONTAL POLARIZATION, MEDIUM TO LONG RANGE - HR4/4/.5

picture Antenna Products Corporation HR4/4/.5 Applications

The HR4/4/0.5 is a dipole curtain array designed for medium to long range shortwave broadcast use. The dipoles are horizontally polarized and are fed in front of a reflector screen to provide a directive beam at about 10° above the horizon. The antenna is designed for 250 kW carrier power, 375 kW average and 1000 kW PEP. It is provided in two sizes. The low band antenna covers the 6, 7, 9 and 11 MHz bands and the high band covers the 11, 13, 15, 17 and 21 MHz bands.

Features

The HR4/4/0.5 is a four-element wide by four-element high broadcast curtain array that is fed in front of a reflector screen. The curtain covers an approximate 2:1 frequency band. The gain of the curtain is typically 21 dBi with radiation angles being nominally 10° above the horizon. The azimuth beamwidth is typically 30°. Each dipole is constructed of eight horizontal wires made of 3 #12 alumoweld cables with the vertical members being 1" diameter tubing. The 15 dB front-to-back ratio is achieved by extending the reflector a one-quarter wavelength past the dipole in both height and width and by designing the reflector screen so that the transmission coefficient is at least 15 dB down from plane wave excitation. The reflector wires are 3 #12 alumoweld and are spaced 0.025 wavelenghts apart.
